Paris an actress? Nottie at all
She doesn't just have acne, but festering boils all over face and body. Her teeth are not merely tobacco-colored, but cratered and cavitied. In this lame attempt to make a Farrelly Brothers gross-out comedy, June is the dung heap that makes Cristabel look even more like a pearl. In Cristabel's devotion to June, the screenplay intends to present Hilton's character as the soul of sweetness and decency. But because it makes Cristabel look like a pet owner who wants points for adopting the ugliest mutt from the shelter, the intention backfires. Hard to believe in Cristabel's sweetness and decency when the only line of dialogue Hilton delivers with any degree of animation is her retort to a preening guy hitting on her at a club: "Pay the bar tab, bitch!" Enough said.
The New Skincare Diet: Vitamin-Rich Skin Care Foods
Skincare-News.com explains why implementing a skincare diet is one of the easiest, smartest and kindest skincare steps that can be taken for the skin. With so many new resources available, it's easy to eat correctly for healthy skin. Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2008 -- For anyone who assumes that all diets have to be about denial and portion control, a skincare diet may seem surprising. Skincare-News.com's latest article, "Diet for a New Skin," explains that far from restrictive, a proper skincare diet can be easy and delicious. http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=495 The smart first step to any new diet is identifying the habits of one's current routine that are not healthy, and the same is true of a skincare diet. This includes over-consumption of coffee, diet soda, and processed foods, or not eating enough fresh fruits and vegetables.
Acne Drug Accutane Ups Cholesterol
Zane, MD, of the University of California, San Francisco, along with Manos and other colleagues, evaluated laboratory abnormalities among 13,772 patients with severe acne who were treated with Accutane between 1995 and 2002. The average age of the patients in the study was 19; roughly half were female. When the researchers analyzed the medical records of each patient before, during, and after treatment with Accutane, they found clinicians did a good job of monitoring their patients' blood levels to look for potential problems. Changes in Blood Levels Those problems included a 44% rise in triglyceride levels among patients with normal pretreatment levels, a 31% rise in total cholesterol, and an 11% rise in liver enzyme levels. No significant changes were seen in levels of infection-fighting white blood cells, oxygen-carrying hemoglobin, or blood clotting platelets.
Gene found to suppress skin cancer growth
LA JOLLA, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. geneticists have discovered a specific gene can suppress skin cancer development. The scientists at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research found genetic evidence that Activating Transcription Factor 2, or ATF2 -- a protein that regulates gene transcription -- responds to extracellular stresses, such as ultraviolet light and ionizing radiation. That function in stress and DNA damage response suggests the gene might also play a role in the formation of tumors, researchers led by Ze'ev Ronai said. "Important support for the finding comes from the analysis of tumor samples from human patients with non-malignant skin cancer," said Ronai. "Unlike the strong nuclear expression of ATF2 in normal skin, squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma samples exhibit a significantly reduced nuclear staining for ATF2." The study appears in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
